YOUTH SINGERS

WFYS 2012-13 sing at Woodstock Rotary Music Festival April 16.
Thanks to high spirits and lots of charm, they received a First Award with a mark of 89.

The choir, formally known as the Honour Choir, was created in order to celebrate the five year anniversary of the Kaleid Choral Festival in May of 2010. Youth from ages 9 to 16 were brought together from area schools to sing in Kaleid in Woodstock. We were eager to build upon the Kaleid experience and so the choir resumed in the winter of 2011. This year, WFYS continues to share the joy of singing with our student representatives from area schools. We offer a free, unique opportunity for growth and friendship with other students who love to sing. We are grateful to our sponsors, the Woodstock Fanshawe Singers, and to the City of Woodstock for recognizing the choir with a grant for Kaleid last spring.

WOODSTOCK FANSHAWE YOUTH SINGERS

SEPTEMBER 2012 to April 2013

ABOUT US

Welcome to the WOODSTOCK FANSHAWE YOUTH SINGERS, formally called the Honour Choir of the Woodstock Fanshawe Singers. We have once again brought together students from the Oxford area to share the in the joy of singing in rehearsal and in performance.

The choir was created to celebrate the five year anniversary of the Kaleid Choral Festival in May of 2010 and it resumed in the winter of 2011. This year, WFYS will continue to share the joy of singing with our student representatives from area schools. We will offer a unique opportunity for growth and friendship with other students who love to sing. The rehearsals will take place each week over the Fall, Winter and Spring terms until April 2013. Our goal this year will be to sing as guests of the Woodstock Fanshawe Singers at their Christmas and Spring Concerts and also at the Woodstock Music Festival in April. In addition, we will take a day in April to do ‘Youth Choir on the Road’- a singing tour of some of our local schools.

There will be no fee for membership in WFYS. Once again, all singers in the choir will be sponsored by the Woodstock Fanshawe Singers.

REHEARSALS

Choir members will be rehearsing under the direction of Valerie Easton and accompanist Karen Mc Spadden. Concerts with Woodstock Fanshawe Singers

Friday April 5th at 7:30

Saturday April 6th at 7:30

Please read the schedule carefully, record on your calendars, and let me know about any conflicts as soon as possible.

Finally, a few things to note and to discuss with your child about rehearsals.

1 Please be on time! It is SOO important that we warm up together as a team.

2 Keep the choir t- shirts from year to year, even if you have grown out of them. We might be able to pass them on to another choir member.

New choir t- shirts will be ordered in October for new and returning members as we have to change the logo to show our new choir name.

3 Please bring a water bottle and a snack to rehearsals and to performances. We work long and hard!

4 Be ready to make notes on the music during rehearsals when asked.

5 Learn your music at home and memorise by the appointed times.

6 Phone me ahead of time if you will be late or absent.

7 Take care to bring your choir folder with you to ALL rehearsals.

8 Keep this letter and the rehearsal schedule in your choir folder as a constant reminder of expectations!!

Parent Volunteers

Parent volunteers will be needed on a few occasions. Please complete the section of the permission form if you can help with supervision at rehearsals or concerts. Also, this year we will need parent help with items such as t- shirt orders and ticket orders.
