ChoirsDeadline for Application is March 1, 2012During Kaleid 2012, there are two opportunities for Youth to take part in a Youth Music Project. Thursday, May 3th is designed for London area Youth. Friday, May 4th is designed for Oxford County and Beyond Youth. During the YMPs, youth will join forces for workshops, rehearsal and performance of mass choir music with clinicians Jennifer Moir, Kokopelli Youth Choir’s artistic director Scott Leithead (www.kokopellichoir.com) and our Kaleid 2012 artists-in-residence, FreePlay Duo (www.freeplayduo.com). We are pleased to offer participants a Treble Choir for unchanged voices as well as a Mixed Choir for changed voices. In addition to a day of singing and fun, each mass choir will rehearse and perform on the evening concert program with our guest artists, FreePlay Duo. Who can participate? Elementary and High School Students, Grades 5 – 12, their music teachers and students from private music studios are all welcome to take part. Numbers will be capped at a maximum of 450 students for each day this year so get your registration in early! How do we register? Individuals as well as choirs, classes and groups can register by contacting the Oxford YMP manager at val_wally@hotmail.com or the London YMP manager at kaleidchoralfestival@yahoo.ca to receive a registration package which includes music order forms, rehearsal instructions and other general festival information. These forms and information are also available at www.woodstockfanshawesingers.ca. Groups are responsible for the purchase of their music. Please mail completed registration form and deposit of $100 to your YMP manager by February 17, 2012. What Music Will We Be Performing? What Will The Schedule Look Like for the Youth Music Projects? (subject to change) 9:00 a.m. YMP participants arrive for registration 9:30 a.m. Rehearsal begins – Jennifer Moir, Scott Leithead, Clinicians for both 12:00 p.m. Break for lunch (bring your own) 1:00 p.m. Rehearsal/workshop for all YMP Participants with guest artists, FREEPLAY DUO 2:30 p.m. Photos 3:30 p.m. Kaleid on the Side mini-concert (opportunity for groups to sing for each other) 4:30 p.m. Break for dinner - $5 per person for those who wish to have pizza. There are many restaurants in the area if your group would prefer to take a break from the workshop site :) 6:40 p.m. Call for concert 6:50 p.m. YMP is seated in designated area 7:00 p.m. Concert begins 9:00 p.m. Concert ends Thursday, May 3th YMP workshops/rehearsals and the Showcase Concert in the evening will be held at St. Paul’s Cathedral, 472 Richmond St., London, ON. Friday, May 4th YMP workshops/rehearsals and the Showcase Concert in the evening all take place at Knox Presbyterian Church (Riddell and Hunter), Woodstock, ON. What Will It Cost To Take Part in Kaleid 2012? There will be a charge of $20 per student for both individual participants and groups/classes/choirs. Please note that the fee structure for Kaleid 2012 has changed from previous years. If for any reason this is prohibitive to the participation of your group, there may be opportunities for subsidization of these fees. WIN AN AUTOGRAPHED PHOTO OF YOUR GROUP WITH FREEPLAY DUO!! We are offering an exciting contest again this year. The class/choir/group that sells the most tickets to the evening Showcase Concert will receive a framed 8x10 photograph of your group with FREEPLAY DUO – and it will be signed by the members of FREEPLAY DUO! Everyone will be thrilled and proud to display this photo so start promoting those tickets now! Complimentary tickets will be provided for each group according to the supervisor to student ratio mandated by TVDSB. How else can I be involved in a Kaleid 2012 YMP? If you don’t presently have a choir or your choir is unable to participate, you can still benefit by auditing the day. There are more opportunities for singing for choirs involved in the YMPs. Kaleid on the Side in which participating choirs will perform one piece for each other will take place at the end of the workshop day. If you are not able to take part in the YMP workshops and concert, you can still attend the evening Showcase Concerts and enjoy the high-quality music being performed by our Youth Mass Choirs and our guest artists. Come Solo - Mass Choir Project
What Is Involved?The Kaleid 2012 Mass Choir Project (MCP) will take place on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Knox Presbyterian Church, Riddell and Hunter Streets, Woodstock, ON. During the MCP, singers will join forces for workshops, rehearsal and performance of mass choir music with clinicians Jennifer Moir, Kokopelli Youth Choir’s artistic director Scott Leithead (www.kokopellichoir.com) and our Kaleid 2012 artists-in-residence, FreePlay Duo (www.freeplayduo.com). In addition to a day of singing and func the mass choir will rehearse and perform on the evening Gala concert program with our guest artists, Kokopelli and FreePlay Duo. Kaleid on the side is an opportunity for choirs to perform for each other at the end of the rehearsal part of our day together on Saturday. Interested choirs are encouraged to have one piece prepared that they could share in an informal concert setting with other MCP participants. This is a wonderful way to celebrate and support the unique offering of each choir involved in the MCP. In addition, Kaleid Choral Festival 2010 is pleased to provide “a singer’s brown bag lunch” on Saturday between the morning and afternoon workshops. If participants have food allergies or specific dietary needs, they are encouraged to bring a lunch that day. Please note that other meals are not included in the registration package. What Music Will We Be Performing? Yes, choirs and individuals are expected to have rehearsed the music in advance of the workshop day. The more confident participants are, the more they will be able to enjoy the workshops and performance! For adult choirs taking part, there will be a charge of $50 per chorister. Groups of fewer than 10 choristers will pay $60 per chorister. The fee for student choirs taking part will be $20 per student. The cost for individual participants will be $60. Students will be charged $20. Please note that the fee structure for Kaleid 2012 has changed from previous years.
